In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of 9R Spring Drive, Grand Seiko introduces two limited edition models: the Spring Drive SBGA497 “Pink Snowflake” and Spring Drive GMT SBGE305, each embodying the theme of the “Morning Glow of the Hotaka Peaks.”
SBGA497 captures the serene winter morning setting near Shinshu, the homeplace of Spring Drive. The pink gradation dial is reminiscent of the morning sun on the snowy surface of Hotaka’s Peaks and symbolizes the changing morning scenery, with the dial’s subtle color shifts representing the snow-covered surface illuminated by the morning sun. The power reserve hand and Grand Seiko logo mirror the tones of dawn.
Crafted from high-intensity titanium, the 41mm diameter case is 12.5mm thick and 49mm from lug to lug, ensuring durability and a refined aesthetic. The case is complemented by a high-intensity titanium bracelet secured with a three-fold clasp.
Powering the timepiece is the Spring Drive 9R65 Calibre, a self-winding marvel with 30 jewels. It offers approximately 72 hours of power reserve and an accuracy of ±1 seconds per day and ±15 seconds per month on average.
The black ceramic bezel of SBGE305 mirrors the rugged rock surface of the Hotaka landscape, and its dark-red dial conjures the imagery of a summer sunrise as it illuminates the iconic terrain. This distinctive pairing underscores Grand Seiko’s dedication to capturing the beauty of nature within its extraordinary timepieces.
With a diameter of 40.5mm and case length of 48.7mm, the stainless steel timepiece exhibits exceptional adaptability for wrists of varying sizes, and the mid-case curvature ensures a secure fit.
Throughout the case, a combination of Zaratsu-polished and hairline surfaces creates a captivating interplay of contrasts, imparting a distinctive sparkle that is synonymous with Grand Seiko timepieces. The black ceramic bezel provides scratch resistance to a critical part of the watch that is prone to contact.
The substantial hands are broad and meticulously crafted with hairline surfaces complemented by polished bevels. Enhanced by generous Lumibrite filling for nighttime legibility, the hands, like the intricate indexes, undergo various surface treatments across their multifaceted surfaces.
Powering SBGE305 is the Spring Drive 9R66 Calibre, a self-winding movement with 30 jewels and approximately 72 hours of power reserve. Precision is rated to ±1 seconds per day and ±15 seconds per month on average, and the watch features time, date, a power reserve indicator, and a GMT function, catering to the needs of modern adventurers.
SBGA497 will be available in March 2024 and SBGE305 will be available in June 2024 at Grand Seiko Boutiques and authorized retailers worldwide.
